Shat-R-Shield is the leader in plastic-coating, shatter-resistant glass containers. We do not purchase glass containers and plastic-coat them for resale, but rather we plastic-coat glass containers that our customers purchase from a quality glass container distributor.
There’s no better or safer coating for your glass bottles or containers than the Shat-R-Kote coating, available from Shat-R-Shield. Our coating is tough and clear to form a safe and protective layer on your bottles. If the bottle is dropped or cracked during handling, our chemical resistant coating minimizes flying glass shards, splashing, and allows you sufficient time for the proper disposal and safe transfer of hazardous materials.
Unlike plastisol, which contains plasticizers, Shat-R-Kote will not contaminate the interior of your glass containers with phthalates. The Shat-R-Kote coating is acid-resistant, more solvent-resistant than plastisol and environmentally safe.
Shat-R-Kote coating on glass meets the stringent safety requirements of the food and beverage industry, laboratory testing environments and for those industries needing to contain caustics, precious metals, chemicals and hazardous materials. Engineered to the highest standards for uniform thickness, durability and impact resistance, the Shat-R-Kote coating helps meet OSHA and DOT/UN requirements for handling and shipping hazardous materials.
Shat-R-Kote is an ionomer resin. The word "ionomer" denotes a thermoplastic containing both covalent and ionic bonds. The ionic interchain electrostatic forces are very powerful and to a great extent are responsible for the unique spectrum of properties characteristic of ionomer resins. An ionomer is a thermoplastic polymer that has been ionically crosslinked.
Our resin is basically derived from ethylene/methacrylic acid copolymers. Many of the product characteristics commonly associated with that class of olefin polymers are also evident in the ionomers. For example, chemical resistance, melting range, density, and processing techniques are similar to low density polyethylene or ethylene/vinyl acetate polymer.
The exceptional properties that are derived from the "ionically crosslinked" structure include:
